Special museum tour lets folks look behind the scenes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  Folks got a rare opportunity Sunday afternoon to tour a part of the Cape Fear Museum that is usually off-limits.

This is the second behind the scenes tour the museum has held, which takes guests down into the basement to see items kept in storage.

Some highlights included TV and movie props, period clothing, old technology, and more.

Museum curator Heather Yenco says when people offer donations to the museum, they must first determine if the item truly relates to the Cape Fear.

One woman, whose family has been in the area for over a hundred years, says it was an interesting experience.

“It’s so cool, because I can imagine my folks using some of these things, or their folks using some things. And I have some things that I’ve seen here that I think, maybe I could contribute,” said Mary Farmer.

The museum doesn’t just collect old items, they’re interested in anything that’s significant to our area.

The next behind the scenes tour will be held on Sunday October 21 at 2:00 p.m.

Pre-registration is required.
