Special Olympics prepares for Polar Plunge

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It might be frigid outside but these temperatures are not too cold to support a good cause.

Tomorrow the Special Olympics host its annual Polar Plunge at Kure Beach.

There will be music, food, a silent auction, and a costume contest. Organizers encourage everyone to put on their craziest outfit and take the daring dip.

They say the water will be around 50 degrees, but if that is too chilly for you, there are other ways you can participate.

“If you don’t want to jump in the water and you don’t feel that adventurous or that crazy and don’t want to join us that way you can always run the 5K. Or, we added a 1 mile fun walk,” said New Hanover County Special Olympics coordinator Tiffany Lesley.

The fun gets starts at 11 a.m.

All the funds raised at the event goes to support year round training for the more than 500 athletes in New Hanover County.
