Specially trained K-9, handler add to WPD efforts

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department has a new K-9 partnership.

A two-year-old German Shepard named Jorga and her handler Randy Searls with the I&I K-9 Search and Rescue Team are joining the forces as volunteers on call.

Searls says after two weeks Jorga has already helped finding missing people and securing evidence. He says she specializes in several different categories that normally require multiple dogs, including finding missing persons, building searches, evidence and article search, and human decomposition odor detection.

“Jorga is truly a unique K-9,” Chief Ralph Evangelous said in a news release. “She and Randy will be a great compliment to our existing K-9 team and a huge asset to the local community.”
