Speed limit reduced to 35 mph throughout Topsail Beach

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — After years of debate, the speed limit along the main stretch in Topsail Beach has been reduced to 35 mph.

For years, a portion of N. Anderson Boulevard was a 45 mph zone. The town voted on lowering it several times over the years, but it never passed until this year.

In September 2017, Town Manager Michael Rose said the North Carolina Department of Transportation sent the town a letter saying the DOT was going to reduce the speed limit to 35 during the tourist season.

Rose said in January of this year, the town decided to vote to reduce the speed to 35 mph for the entire year. Rose said there is still a port of Anderson Boulevard near town hall where the speed limit is 25 mph.

Rose said signs were changed last week and residents have been notified through the town’s website and on Facebook.
