Spieth enters third round of Masters with a one shot lead

AUGUSTA, GA (AP) – Jordan Spieth (SPEETH) shot a 2-over 74 in windy conditions to hold onto the lead after two rounds at the 80th Masters. The defending champ is at 4-under par halfway through the first major of the season.

Spieth has held the outright lead at the Masters for six consecutive rounds.

Rory McIlroy is positioned to make a run at completing the career grand slam after he shot a 1-under 71. That leaves him a shot back of Spieth.

Scott Piercy shot a par 72 and Danny Lee posted a 74 to share third place, two shots off the pace.

Only seven golfers are under par for the two rounds.

AUGUSTA, GA (AP)- Phil Mickelson and Tom Watson, with five Masters titles between them, both missed the cut. Lefty had his worst round ever at Augusta National – a 7-over 79 – and the 66-year-old Watson, playing his final round on the course, was just one stroke better with a 6-over 78.

Watson received a standing ovation from the crowd around the 18th green after completing his round. He finished 8-over to miss the cut at his 43rd Masters.

Those two legends had some good company in missing the cut. Also taking the weekend off are ex-champions Trevor Immelman, Charl Schwartzel, Tom Watson, Mark O’Meara, Zach Johnson as well as Rickie Fowler, Graeme McDowell and Ian Woosnam.
