St. Pauls picks up key Three Rivers Conference sweep over East Bladen
ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY)–In two highly anticipated matchups it was the St. Pauls Bulldogs coming out with a pair of wins over East Bladen on Tuesday night.
In the girls game, St. Pauls used an 11 point halftime lead to pull away for the 56-31 win over East Bladen. The loss drops the Eagles to now (6-2) on the year, but East Bladen head coach Patty Evers says she’s proud of her teams fight against one of the top teams in the state.
“They’re tied for first in our conference and I just asked the girls to play hard the entire game,” Evers says. “We needed to go out there and try keep the ball in front of us, work our offense around, and be patient. You know we’re still young, but we went out there and we executed. I felt like we were up to the challenge and we held on as long as we could.”
In the night cap of the boys game, neither team created much separation throughout the first half. St. Pauls led by three at the break, but used a huge fourth quarter to come away with the 72-55 win.
The East Bladen boys will take on East Columbus on Friday night, while the Eagle girls are off until next Tuesday against South Columbus.
