StarNews takes a look back on the history of Battleship NC in Friday’s paper

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Battleship North Carolina is celebrating its 75th anniversary Saturday, and the StarNews is dedicating a portion of the paper Friday to the importance of the World War II ship.

Local Editor Jeff Hidek says they wanted to take an in-depth look at the ship’s impact. Hidek says they spoke with a lot of local readers who shared their personal stories growing up around the Battleship.

He says the Battleship has a big impact on our tourism in the area and is such an iconic piece to the Cape Fear.

“We are doing a special pull out wrap that people can keep with them and hopefully read cover to cover and learn more about the Battleship’s great history,” Hidek said.

Hidek says they will touch on the ship’s wartime accomplishments, share some stories from while it was out at sea, and explain how and why the Battleship came to the Port City.
