State fair officials seeking proposals again for sky ride

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina State Fair officials are again seeking proposals from companies that could build and operate a permanent sky ride on the fairgrounds.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports fair officials had hoped to have an aerial lift ride at this year’s fair after seeking bids for it in May, but that idea proved too ambitious.

Now they’re seeking proposals for a simpler sky ride that would have either chairlift-style seats or enclosed gondolas strung along cables that run about 1,400 feet. Officials hope to have it ready for next year.

Kent Yelverton, construction director for the state Department of Agriculture, says the ride would serve the dual purpose of giving people a recreational ride and allowing them to move easily over congested areas.
