Steve Brooks resigns as Laney head football coach

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Steve Brooks has announced his resignation as the head coach of Laney’s football team after one season.

Brooks posted his announcement on social media. WWAY spoke to Brooks on Monday, who said he desires to be closer to family in the Greenville area.

The Bucs went 6-5 and made the playoffs in his lone season at the helm.

Brooks is the second football coach in the Carolina Coast to resign. Chris Schmidt of Topsail stepped down from his role on November 5.
