Stormfest prepares new residents for weather

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Stormfest prepared new residents for weather on Saturday. More than 600 people attended this year’s event.

This annual event at the Cape Fear Museum is used to raise awareness and increase preparedness on the science of weather.

There were hands-on weather experiments, shelter information and several presentations.

Our own chief meteorologist Jerry Jackson gave a presentation about the hurricanes in North Carolina’s past.

Gwen Garrett and her family just moved to Wilmington two months ago. She said the day could not have been more helpful.

“I feel more prepared, because of all of the safety checklists and all of the things people told us about the shelters,” Garrett said. “My kids were worried about it. It’s nice to know that we have some place to go if something like that happens.”
