STORMTRACK 3: Arthur exits North Carolina, better weather ahead for July 4th

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hurricane Arthur dumped over 4 inches of rain in some coastal locations in southeastern NC. Wind gusts of 71 mph were reported in at least one beach location, but the WWAY viewing area managed to avoid a direct landfall. Residents of the Outer Banks were not so lucky, as Arthur made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane just near Cape Lookout.

In the Duplin County community of Rose Hill, a confirmed tornado caused damage to homes and automobiles. Thankfully, no major injuries or fatalities were reported.

Quiet weather returns for the July 4th weekend, although the risk of rip currents will remain elevated for a few days.
