STORMTRACK 3: Temperature drops 35° and flakes fly; Earliest snow in Wilmington history
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– If you don't like the weather, just wait a few hours! The old saying proved true out there this time around as an Arctic cold front swung through North Carolina.
Temperatures were right around 70° Tuesday afternoon before a cold front plowed into Southeastern North Carolina. Hours later, temperatures had fallen into the mid 30's and what started as a light drizzle turned into an impressive burst of sleet and snow.
Given warm ground temperatures, the snow did not accumulate or last long, but it did stick to cars and make for some great photo ops for a time.

Before this event, the earliest record of snowflakes falling in Wilmington was November 14th, both in 1976 and 1934. This event will set a new record upon official confirmation from the National Weather Service.
