Strong start leads Northeastern past UNCW women’s hoops in CAA quarterfinals
NEWARK, DE (WWAY)–The Northeastern Huskies led by 10 points after the first quarter on Thursday night and UNCW women’s basketball could never get much closer. The Seahawks see their season end at the hand of the Huskies, 75-64.
It was a career night for Ahyiona Vason shooting the basketball. The junior had a game-high 24 points in the loss for UNCW. She was one of three Seahawks that finished in double figures. Shrita Parker had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Northeastern was led in scoring by Jess Genco with 22 points. She went 13-16 from the free throw line in the game. The Huskies as a team 22 of 28 from the free throw stripe, while UNCW attemped just seven and made four.
UNCW ends their season with a 18-12 record. Northeastern moves onto the semifinals on Friday night where they will meet up with the No.2 Drexel. The Dragons beat William & Mary 71-60 earlier in the evening on Thursday.
