Students run to the polls at UNCW
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — People were quite literally running to the polls over at UNCW this evening. The Run to the Polls event encourages students to get out and exercise their right to cast their vote. For many of those out tonight, this is the first chance they’ve had to vote in a presidential election.
UNCW senior Seth Regan said he’s excited to vote this year because he believes that no matter who wins the race for president, it will be a historic election. But he said among his peers, it’s a mixed bag of emotions.
“A lot of people are really excited to get out there and voice their opinion and a lot of people are avoiding the polls altogether because they feel that no matter who they vote for or whatever way they cast their vote that it’s going to be a waste either way, which in my opinion I think you need to voice your opinion,” said Regan.
Many candidates running for local offices were out talking with students about their policies and the issues facing people in the Cape Fear before the run to the Government Center to vote.
