Suicide bomber cited in Turkish tourist hub attack


The explosion that killed 10 people and injured 15 in Istanbul, Turkey, this morning was caused by a Syria-linked suicide bomber, Turkish President Recep Erdogan said at a news conference.

The blast happened near the iconic blue mosque in Sultanahmet, a historic, tourist district, around 10.20 a.m. local time.

The U.S. Embassy in Turkey tweeted, “Ambassador Bass: Closely following reports of an explosion in #Sultanahmet. Our thoughts are with those affected…”
