VENTURA, CA (CBS) — Young patients receiving critical care at a California hospital got a special visit from some mighty superheroes for Halloween.

Batman and Spider-Man delighted kids and staff at Ventura County Medical Center as they rappelled down the side of the hospital and performed stunts.

The volunteers in-costume come from the Ventura County Regional Urban Search and Rescue team. They brought a visual treat to the hospital’s pediatric patients, who were unable to go trick or treating.

Ashley Humes, Public Information Officer for Ventura Healthcare Agency, explained that many children that are in in-patient units are there for long durations of stay. She added, “they’re like family to us – so to be able to provide these types of opportunities, have a little fun, bring some smiles to their faces […] is what it’s all about.”

The Ventura County Medical Center is home to the county’s first neo-natal intensive care unit, and its only pediatric intensive care unit.
