Suspect arrested after 13 guns stolen in Sneads Ferry break-in

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man accused of stealing 13 firearms during a home break-in in Sneads Ferry.

On Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of a break-in at a home on Longboat Lane. The homeowner told investigators that while the family was away, someone entered the residence and stole firearms, ammunition, and other personal property. In total, 13 guns were reported stolen.

Detectives identified the suspect as Joshua Allen Chavis, 37, of Sneads Ferry. He was arrested on Wednesday at a home in Sneads Ferry.

Chavis is facing multiple felony charges, including:

  • Breaking or entering a residence
  • Larceny of a firearm
  • Larceny after breaking and entering
  • Breaking and entering a motor vehicle
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Financial card theft
  • Obtaining property by false pretense
  • Larceny
  • Possession of stolen property

He is being held in the Onslow County Detention Center without bond.

The Sheriff’s Office says the stolen firearms with confirmed serial numbers have been entered into national law enforcement databases.
