Suspect identified in slaying of Jacksonville mother, son

JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — A Swansboro man has been accused of killing a Jacksonville woman and their infant son.

Multiple media outlets report that police arrested 25-year-old Sebastian Mendez in connection to the slayings of Shuang Liu and their child, 5-month-old Archer Zhi Liu. The two victims were found dead Saturday in Liu’s Jacksonville home.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller says the incident has been ruled a domestic double homicide.

Mendez was treated for a stab wound at Onslow Memorial Hospital Saturday morning, at which time the bodies had not yet been discovered.

Authorities have not yet identified a motive for the killings. It was not immediately clear if Mendez has hired an attorney.
