Tabor City man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at deputies

TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man for allegedly pointing a gun at deputies during a domestic dispute.
On October 18, 2025, deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Pine Circle Road in Tabor City after receiving reports of an armed domestic disturbance. The caller advised that the suspect had made threats toward law enforcement and was armed inside the residence.
Upon arrival, deputies observed the suspect at the doorway of the home holding a firearm. Multiple commands were given for the suspect to drop the weapon. After initially refusing, the suspect eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
Deputies entered the residence to check on the victim, who reported being assaulted and threatened during the altercation. Evidence inside the home indicated that multiple rounds had been fired prior to law enforcement’s arrival. Several firearms and ammunition were seized from the residence.
Marty Strickland, 64, was arrested and charged with:
- Felony Discharging a Firearm to Incite Fear
- Felony Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction
- Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm
- Misdemeanor Assault on a Female
- Misdemeanor Interfering with Emergency Communications
- Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun
- Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer
Strickland was taken to the Columbus County Detention Center and held without bond.
