#TBT: Paranormal Peacemaker at the Post
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You might want to keep this week’s Throwback Thursday in mind if you plan on celebrating Halloween downtown this weekend.
Wilmington, once known as New Liverpool, had a reputation for it’s nightlife so to speak. One area, between Market and Dock St. known as Paradise Alley housed a particularly well known spot to get a drink and have a good time.
The Blue Post was run by a 6 foot tall, 350 pound woman who went by the name Gallus Meg. Her work as a bouncer was legendary and it is said when she deposited an unruly customer on the pavement in the alley she’d bite off his ear and later spit it into a pickling jar kept for that purpose on the bar.
Today, some say they can still feel her presence in the bar, keeping the crowd under control. Many people have reported her keeping fellas who may have had one too many from finding their way into the ladies room. .
