Teacher of the Week: Brandy Conley

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — After stepping out of the classroom for to give birth to her second child, Brandy Conley is back at the head of her first grade classroom.

While her family grows outside of school, Conley focuses on making her students feel like family too.

“While I am here and while they are in my classroom, they are my babies. Throughout their education they will always be my babies, just like I tell Braxton, ‘Even when you’re 80, you’ll always be my baby,’ ” said Conley.

Her goal is to create a sense of community within her class through focusing on the positive and adding a little fun to lesson plans.

“We are a team. We are a family and we are the Conley’s” she said as her class as the first graders yelled “Conley’s” back at her with pride.

Conley says as students get ready to move up to the second grade she hopes she was able to demonstrate to all her “babies” that learning is lifelong.

“I don’t want them to have skills just school because life is just so much more than that. I want them to be able to apply it wherever they are and whoever they are with.”
