Teacher of the Week: Coraey Houser
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Coraey Houser is living his dream as a P.E. teacher at Snipes Academy of Arts and Design in Wilmington. In his first year he is discovering the joys of inspiring minds and showing his students a new path in life.
“I care about the life aspect,” he says, “school is school, but life is life.” He wants his kids to be good at life and focuses on life lessons as he spends time with them in- and out-of-school. Mr. Houser often visits students in other classes, eats lunch with them, and even rides the bus to make sure they are safe at home.
Teaching Physical Education is more than just his lesson plans. “It’s a lot more than that. The words I use most are respect, care honesty, truthfulness and responsibility.” He admits he was in his 6th week of the year before he even used a word from his PE board!
Getting through the day is easy for Mr. Houser because when “I see one of my boy’s faces they just change my whole mindset and I love them.”
As the WWAY Michael and Son Teacher of the Week he encourages others to become teachers. “I love it,” he says, “I love it. I love the profession. Please come join us! We need more teachers!”
