Teacher of the Week: Ellen Davis

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Ellen Davis says her students touch her life in a way she could never have imagined and are a huge part of her heart.

“My students,” she says, “are always making me laugh and I learn so much from them.”  As a teacher at Ashley High School she spends her time teaching, reading and even helping some students learn to swim.

When she learned she won the WWAY Michael and Son Teacher of the Week she said it “makes those really large moments in the day all the more worthwhile.  We spend a lot of time together and to know that’s how they feel makes my heart go pitter patter.”

“I work with children who need social communicative support,”  she says, “so my work lets me see what things I need to adjust in the way I communicate with people and how to make the world a little bit more clear.”

Her student Thanasi Papoulias says of Davis:  “Unless someone like her cares a lot about someone like me I wouldn’t be here.  She is the best teacher ever!”
