Teacher of the Week: Ingram Nicholson

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Ingram Nicholson is passionate about two things, kids and English.

“I became a teacher because my parents were both teachers and I saw the effect that they had on kids,” said Nicholson a seventh grade language arts teacher at Topsail Middle School.

For her, teaching is all about inspiring young minds. She brings her love of the English language into the classroom everyday.

“I love reading. Seventh graders are so strange and I love them so much. It’s always entertaining. Everyday is different. Every minute is different,” Nicholson said.

She said middle school is all about give and take and teaching the kids to believe in themselves.

“I want them to do well. I want the best for them and I’m going to work if they work. I have high expectations and I want them to have high expectations for themselves,” Nicholson said.

She describes her classroom as laid back.

“We do a lot of group work, we do a lot of talking. There’s not a lot of me standing at the front usually,” Nicholson said.

She adds it’s important to be open minded and prepared to handle anything.

“The good days are great. The bad days are pretty bad, but the good days make it all worth it.”
