Teacher of the Week: Kathyrn Bryant
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Our Teacher of the Week is a self-proclaimed “Momma-Bear” who is very protective and passionate about her students and their education.
Kathryn Bryant is a special needs teacher at Parsley Elementary instructing levels K-5th grade.
“Seeing them walk for the first time, seeing a kid read a book for the first time. Those things, it just make your heart explode,” she said.
Bryant’s heart has been exploding over these milestone moments for three years.
“I like being the person that gets it out of them. I like being able to say ‘See, I told you they could do it,’ ” said Bryant.
Through her unrelenting faith in her students and with her proactive attitude, she is able to make what is said to be impossible possible for her kids.
“You can never discredit any child because you never know what is going to come about because you keep your expectations hard and you really push them to be their best,” she said.
But pushing them to be their best doesn’t come without a lot of hard word. Bryant essentially has to tailor her lessons to each child to accommodate their individual learning styles.
“It requires a lot of differentiation within your instructions and a lot of planning time,” said Bryant. “But, it works out really well for all of our kids.”
