Teacher of the Week: Michael Meier

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Our teacher of the week is both a Hoggard High School alumnus and a beloved teacher.

Michael Meier teaches English at Hoggard High School and is described as having navy blue and white in his veins. His nomination calls him a cheerleader for his students. When asked how he feels about being called an inspiration, he said,  “It’s a great compliment. I’m glad to have impacted someone in this way.”

Once a Hoggard Viking himself, he has an interesting take on being the one at the front of the class.

“It’s always an adventure. You don’t know exactly what you’re gonna get and there are some outside influence and things, but it’s predictable, you get to enjoy the ride and oftentimes we know the destination and along the way sometimes there’s some heartache and oftentimes there’s lots of reason to celebrate. It’s a great adventure. I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” said Meier.

After they leave his classroom, what does Mr. Meier want his students to say about him?

“I want them to say that I made a difference. I want them to realize they were always my first and I always want them to be successful, and happy, but happy first.”
