Team of the Week: Trask Titans
ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — We made the short trip to Rocky Point in order to honor the Trask Titans with the WWAY-Farm Bureau Insurance Team of the Week award.
Until last week Trask had not been able to beat Topsail in football since 2006. Essentially Topsail defeated Trask the last 9 years, but that’s not the case this season. Trask won 16-15 in game that started on Friday night, but concluded on Saturday night.
Steven Jordan is a Trask running back. “I felt accomplished at the end. Our defense didn’t give up and we kept fighting against Topsail.”
Trask head coach Jonathan Taylor hopes his Trask team has turned the corner. “We were up 2-0 with 48 seconds left in the half on Friday night when the game got called because of the weather,” Taylor told WWAY. “We had to wait around awhile and come back on Saturday. That is always a scary thought for a coach, starting over the next day, you always wonder how it will effect the kids. They got up 15-2, but I will be honest with you when they did I saw a look in my guys eyes that I had never seen at Trask. It was a look of determination, we’re gonna get this done.”
Junior QB Tyrese Armstrong also played a big part in the Trask come from behind victory along with running back B.J. Jordan. “A lot of years they’ve been talking trash about this school,” Jordan said. “They said we’re not that good and beating em felt good.”
Trask (1-0) will host South Robeson (0-1) on August 26.
