TEAM OF THE WEEK: Twin connection & ferocious defense boost East Bladen
ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — Farrell and Larrell Murchison are gone. They’re now playing college football at Louisburg College. The twins were a terrific tandem for East Bladen, but Eagle opponents still have to see double with junior speedsters Eian Hines and Ethan Hines.
Eian scored a sensational touchdown in the second half against Whiteville last Friday. Ethan scored twice in the first half, but it’s a team game, and these Eagles are not small in the size department. “We go hard everyday and we have good coaches behind us just pushing us,” East Bladen Eagle Chris Cromartie told us. “Overall, we have a good offensive and defensive line. Hopefully that will take us somewhere deep into the playoffs.” East Bladen head coach Robby Priest was ecstatic about the way his team played on defense in the 29-8 win over Whiteville High. “Defense stepped up big for us,” Priest said. “We were able to get five turnovers, whether by accident or by plan. It just seemed to go our way that night.”
There’s no doubt five Whiteville turnovers hurt the Wolfpack and the Eagles did a good job of capitalizing on their opportunities. Overall East Bladen had four touchdowns in the 28-9 win, but the most impressive play may have been a simple pass play in the second quarter that led to the second touchdown of the night for East Bladen.
“He told me to throw, and if I throw it he’ll go up and get it,” quarterback Ty McMillian told WWAY. “That’s what he did and the line gave him time. I just threw it up, he(Ethan Hines) said he would go get it.”
“It was a good catch,” Ethan Hines proclaimed. “Ty threw it up. I went and got it. Ain’t nothing else to say. I juked the last dude.” Twin brother Eian Hines know his time for a sensational grab will come soon. “I ain’t see it during the game, but as soon as I got home I had to see it on TV,” Eian Hines told us. “Ethan was all in my face about it. I guess I need to be the next one to get the catch.”
That may end up being true. Regardless, let’s give it up for the high-flying 2-0 East Bladen Eagles. They’re this week’s WWAY Logo Shoppe Team of the Week
