Team of the Week – Whiteville Wolfpack

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Whiteville football players wanted to be honored earlier this season with our team of the week award, but sometimes we tell the guys we’re saving the best for last. Coincidentally last week Whiteville may have played their best game of the year in their regular season finale. It was a 41-20 victory over conference foe St. Pauls. “I think we played as hard as we had all year,” Whiteville senior Trey Ellis told WWAY. “We all played together and had intensity.”

Whiteville head coach Luke Little was quick to praise his team’s effort on the field against the Bulldogs. “We only start two seniors,” Little said. “I feel like we’re playing our best football right now which is the way it should be when you have a young team. All our losses are to good teams. We don’t have any bad losses.”

Whiteville essentially secured the victory after one quarter of play after getting off to a 21-0 lead against St. Pauls. For the Wolfpack the focus of attention is now on the state playoffs. They’ll be hosting Cherryville in round 1 on Friday. Whiteville junior Monchovia Gaffney is confident going into Friday’s game. “Everybody just needs to do their job instead of worrying about other jobs,” Gaffney told WWAY’s John Rendleman.

Let’s give it up for this week’s WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance Team of the Week – Whiteville Wolfpack.
