TEAM OF THE WEEK: Will the Topsail Pirates build on their 3-0 start?

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — “We’re gonna go undefeated.” That’s what Topsail senior Walker Haley told us shortly after the team of the week presentation in Hampstead. Haley and Pirates know it’s going to be hard to do, but Topsail is 3-0, and after 3 games 3-0 is as good as it gets. In fact Topsail High is 3-0 in football for the first time since 2008. Topsail beat Trask by 20 in the season opener. The Pirates beat Pender by 26 in week 2 and the Pirates shutout Dixon 20-0 last week.

“What’s the best thing about Topsail football this year? I would say practice and pregame meals, per Walker Haley. For the pregame meals we usually eat lasagna, bread sticks. We had Subway one game.”

“I have thrown up three times with that pregame meal.” that’s what NC State football commitment Joe Sculthorpe told WWAY. “That pregame meal is nothing good. I do not like that pregame meal. That spaghetti is tearing me up.”

Joe Sculthorpe loves to tear up his opponents every Friday night too, just like the rest of the Topsail offensive line. “We want him(Joe) here in Hampstead a few more weeks. We don’t want to send him off to Raleigh just yet, senior running back Drew Gaither told WWAY. “We have Codie Howell one senior. We’ve got Jarett Radley and Hank Jacobs those are two juniors and there’s our center I.J. so we have two juniors and three seniors on the offensive line. Those are some impressive offensive lineman you have there. Yes sir, they are huge.”

“The guys are playing the game the right way and I am pleased where we are right now,” Topsail head coach Wayne Inman told us. “Offensively we are moving the football well and defensively we’re flying to the football.”

“We’re going to win the 3-A portion of the conference and then we’re going to surprise some 4-A teams this year,” senior Hunter Potts told us. “It’s about time people in Pirate land have something to cheer for.” With that’s, let’s give it up for this week’s WWAY Logo Shoppe team of the week, the Topsail Pirates !!
