Tee off at summer camp with Wilmington Junior Golf Academy

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local organization is making sure your kids have fun on the links this summer and registration is now open!

Wilmington Junior Golf Academy is a non-profit youth development program that uses golf as a way to teach kids about life skills and core values.

Coach Jake Hunt said the academy reaches out to more than 3,000 kids a year in the community through the elementary schools in New Hanover County.

The lessons taught on the course can translate directly to real life, according to 7th grade student Jose Alvarez. “It helps you out with focusing,” Alvarez said. He explained that students practice swings, chipping and putting but also develop great, respectful relationships with each other.

While the organization has outreach opportunities throughout the school year and weekend clinics, this summer there will be multiple summer camps available to kids at absolutely no cost.

The camps are June 11-15, July 16-20 and August 6-10. All are from 9 a.m. to Noon at Belvedere Country Club in Hampstead.
