It is the first time someone from Charlotte has been on the list.
The FBI and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are asking for help in locating Castillo whom investigators allege is responsible for the 2016 murder of his former girlfriend, 23-year-old Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le.
Castillo should be considered armed and extremely dangerous, police said.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Mecklenburg County District Attorney Andrew Hurray said Le’s family deserved peace and closure.
“We’re not angry at Alex anymore,” said Le’s uncle, Bobby Le. “We just want closure. She (Sandy) was a trusting person. That was the problem — she trusted Alex.”
The FBI said Castillo was last seen in the Mexican state of Agua Calientes, and released video of him and a co-defendant crossing the border into Mexico last year.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to his arrest.
