The Brunswick County GOP hosts Candidate forum at Leland Cultural Arts Center

LELAND, NC (WWAY)– Early voting starts on February 12th for Brunswick County, and one race that is getting a lot of attention is between two Sheriff candidates.

On Saturday, Brunswick GOP held a forum at the Leland Cultural Arts Center for candidates running in the primary election. One of those races is for county Sheriff, with the candidates being current county Sheriff Brian Chism, and Tim Daniels. The forum invited residents to come in and meet the republican candidates and ask them any questions they might have.

One question that stood out was about cooperating with ICE agents in Brunswick County, and what the candidates would do.

“If immigration is coming into Brunswick County to get someone who committed a violent crime, they need to be allowed to do that. Immigration is not coming down here knocking door to door. I have had no communication with them,” said Chism.

Daniels stated, “If you are here illegally, and the feds have a detainer on you with the 287 G program, or whatever the federal system mutual agreement is, you should be shipped away.”

Early voting will run through Saturday February 28th. Primary election day will be on Tuesday, March 3rd.
