The deadline to file taxes is approaching, here’s a few reminders

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The deadline to file your taxes is quickly approaching. Here’s your reminder if you’re still crunching the numbers.

The deadline to file is Monday, April 15, at midnight.

WWAY caught up with The Tax Ladies in Shallotte to get some tips for last-minute filers. They said to ensure you have all your documents to make processing and filing easier and faster.

They also said if there is something new in your life, like a new house, car, or baby—be ready to provide documents in order to claim deductions.

Sharon Muthig said the biggest reminder she can offer applies to those looking to file an extension.

“On the 15th we can file extensions. Extensions are an extension to file, not an extension to pay. so, if you think you’re going to owe, you need to pay with your extension,” Muthig.

Muthig said if you are receiving assistance in filing your taxes, be patient. You can expect to experience long wait times, but coming in prepared will help the process go smoother.
