The Healing Place serves up Thanksgiving meals

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of people are getting a hot meal today, thanks to The Healing Place of New Hanover County’s second annual Thanksgiving Feast.

The all-you-can-eat event offering both a warm meal and a sense of community to those in need.

Volunteers have been busy throughout the day, serving meals to guests on-site, and even preparing to-go boxes for those who prefer takeout.

By mid-afternoon, around 500 to-go meals had already been sent out, helping ensure that as many people as possible have a place to get a hot meal this Thanksgiving.

Brian Mingia, Executive Director of The Healing Place, shared how the event fosters connections within the community:

“It’s an opportunity for the community to come in and see what we have going on at The Healing Place, and also to give back to the community. We want to make sure that those who don’t have family with them this year have somewhere to go and be able to break bread with somebody else in the community.”

With cooler temperatures expected over the next few days, Mingia also announced that The Healing Place will be opening shelter beds to help those displaced from the cold.
