The NC DOI sets up a fact center in Pleasure Island this week

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Insurance set up a fact center Tuesday in Carolina Beach to answer people’s questions about flood insurance.

Their goal is to assist the people who were impacted by the unnamed storm that flooded the town. They are there to answer questions and help people who may need it through the claims process. They also had a FEMA representative online to help spread information to people.

Marcia Kelly, the regional director for the coastal southeast with the NC DOI said several people stopped by seeking information.

“The folks that we’ve helped this morning, were very happy that we were here, and we were able to direct them to whatever their needs were. Because we are the Department of Insurance and we are a state agency we really have no regulation over flood insurance, but we do have the ability to direct them to FEMA and to the other areas that they need to get their claims handled,” Kelly said.

Another fact center will be set up Wednesday at the fire department in Kure Beach from 10am until 3pm

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urges people to get flood insurance.
