WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Sorrow Drowner will be relocating to California.

The owners put out a statement on Facebook sharing their reason why:

When Bunny and I first returned to North Carolina, it was to design and build the bar and then leave it in the capable hands of an experienced bar operator. However, as many know, plans often evolve, and what was meant to be a temporary stay turned into a full-time commitment over the past few years. Our passion for The Sorrow Drowner and its guests has been unwavering, but after careful consideration during a period of reassessment as we enjoy the off season, we have decided that the time has come to honor our original intention to return to California.

The decision to relocate was not made lightly. We are deeply grateful for the support we’ve received from the Wilmington community and visitors. Yet, our online following has consistently been from the west coast, and we believe this move aligns with our vision for the future of The Sorrow Drowner.

In preparation for our transition, The Sorrow Drowner will soon reopen for bar service only, offering a truncated menu and snacks. This will provide our patrons with a few more opportunities to enjoy the space that Trader Brandon and we so lovingly built. During this time, we’ll be offering a small discounted drink menu and we will be selling all mugs for $25 to help liquidate inventory ahead of the move. A small selection of our props and artifacts will be made for sale as well! Additionally, we will entertain offers on the business itself, which includes all real estate holdings.

We thank those in Wilmington who embraced our vision and created countless memories with us. While we will miss this chapter, we’re excited for what lies ahead and can’t wait to bring the magic of The Sorrow Drowner to California. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this adventure!”
