UPDATE: Police identify Louisiana movie theater shooter

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Police in Lafayette, Louisiana, say a gunman waited 20 minutes into the showing of the comedy “Trainwreck” before he stood up and opened fire on the crowd.

The shooter is now being identified as 59-year-old John Russel Houser. Police say Houser previously lived in Alabama but is “kind of a drifter” who had been in the Lafayette area since early July.

Authorities have not determined a motive. They searched a motel room he had been staying in and found wigs and other disguises.

Two people were killed and at least seven others were wounded Thursday evening before the man shot himself to death in the movie theater.

Police say they found suspicious items in the man’s vehicle and decided to set off explosions as a precaution.
