Third shooting in Myrtle Beach in less than week, latest tied to gang violence
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — One person has died from injuries after the third shooting in a week on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.
A police spokesperson said Monday’s incident happened around 12:40 a.m. at 15th Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard. He added one person is in custody.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler identified 24-year old Cadric Elmore Jr. of Greenwood, South Carolina, died at the scene of the shooting. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune released a statement Monday afternoon on the shooting.
“For the 3rd time in one week our community has been violated by gang violence from outside of our borders. They brought their rivalries and disputes to MB to fight and that is not acceptable. Our police dept was on the scene in each instance immediately and within minutes had suspects in custody. We will work with our counterparts across the state to address these issues and we will take swift and immediate action to protect us from these evil acts. There is nothing the police could have done to predict or prevent these acts. These thugs have no regard for human life and no fear of law enforcement.”
Anyone with information relating to the shooting is asked to contact Myrtle Beach police at 843-918-1382.
