Thom Tillis revisits the Port of Wilmington, see’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in action

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Senator Thom Tillis was in Wilmington on Tuesday. He began his visit with a tour of the Port of Wilmington.

Last year, Senator Tillis announced a nearly $11 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvements to the Port. That funding came from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which Sen. Tillis helped write and pass into law.

On Tuesday, he was back in Wilmington at the Port, getting an update from officials about implementing the law on the ground level.

Some of that funding is helping the Port do projects such as constructing a roadway into the cargo terminal.

“When we get federal dollars, I want to see a multiplier. It’s not enough just to match taxpayer dollars. I want to see a multiplier on the investment and what we see out here at the Port is a great example of a great return on the investment for the taxpayers of North Carolina and the country,” Sen. Tillis.

Some of the other thing’s funding is towards at the Port includes relocation of the north gate security checkpoint and improvements to existing at-grade railroad crossings.
