Thousands attend Cape Fear Heart Walk at UNCW
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The American Heart Association welcomed more than 2,000 people for the 8th Annual Cape Fear Heart Walk on the Campus of UNCW-McNeill Hall Front Lawn.
Teams from across the area spend their Saturday morning walking to raise donations for lifesaving research and education in the treatment of heart disease and stroke, America’s number 1 and number 5 killers.
Cape Fear Heart Association Director Ashley Miller says heart and stroke survivors were distinguished at the walk with special red caps.
“This event brings the community together,” Miller said. “It creates awareness. You get to talk about the warning signs of heart disease and stroke. Survivors get to celebrate their health today. People are also paying tribute to someone they may have lost.”
