Three charged following traffic stop in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  Three charged including a juvenile after a traffic stop according to Wilmington Police.

According to WPD, this past Saturday units pulled over a vehicle for a window tint violation in the 200 block of Montgomery Avenue. When one of the passengers was asked to step outside of the vehicle he tried to flee on foot with a pistol in his waistband. Police later brought him into custody. The pistol contained a modified conversion device.

The driver and front passenger were also detained as officers searched the vehicle. An additional firearm was located in the vehicle, in addition to marijuana. 

Demarius Simpson, 18, was charged with Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, Carrying Concealed Weapon-Gun, PWIMSD Marijuana, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. He was given a $50,000 secured bond. 

Ishmaeli James II, 22, was charged with CCW Gun, PWIMSD Marijuana, Felony Maintain Vehicle for Sale of Controlled Substance, Possess, Possess Marijuana Paraphernalia, and Window Tint Violation. He was given a $10,000 secured bond. 

A juvenile is also facing charges in this case.
