Three charged after fatal motorcycle crash in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three motorcyclists were charged after a fatal crash left one person dead.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, they responded to an accident near 16th Street and Church Street between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. A group of motorcyclists were traveling at a high rate of speed, heading southbound on 16th Street. One of the bikers from the group, 43-year-old David Michael Shaw, swerved to avoid a vehicle and crashed into a pole. He has been pronounced dead.

Three members of the group of motorcyclists were arrested for their involvement with the incident. 25-year-old Benjamin Alan Wade was charged with reckless operation and exceeding the speed limit. 31-year-old Ryan Scott Ellis was charged with reckless operation, exceeding posted speed, driving while license revoked, and no motorcycle endorsement. 37-year-old Mark A. Williams is charged with reckless operation, exceeding posted speed, no operators license, and no motorcycle endorsement.

All three are being processed at WPD Wednesday evening. No bond has been set at this time.
