Thrift shop collects school supplies for kids in need

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —  The start of a new school year is right around the corner for kids in Brunswick County, which means stocking up on school supplies. But what about families who cannot afford everything on the list?

CIS Thrift Shops are holding their third annual ‘Communities in Schools Back to School Supply Drive.’

They have several community partners involved in the drive.

The goal is to collect as many supplies as they can for students in need, to give them the tools they need to succeed.

Miss North Carolina Junior Teen Julia Narvaez stopped by the Southport location this afternoon to contribute to the cause.

“I’ve seen a lot of families all around my community who are in desperate need of school supplies and it’s just something that they can’t afford right now,” said Narvaez.

CIS is accepting donations of supplies and money at all Brunswick County locations.

Although they prefer new items, gently used items such as backpacks are accepted.
