Time Warner, Verizon customers in Triangle hit by outage

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Thousands of Time Warner and Verizon customers have lost their phone and internet service in the Research Triangle area.

Local media outlets report Verizon said Monday’s outage was limited to phone calls on its network in Durham, Wake and Orange counties, but users in Johnston, Lee, Nash and Wilson counties also said they had no phone service.

While some users were able to send text messages by phone, others reported they had also lost that service.

Time Warner spokesman Scott Pryzwansky said the company’s fiber line that serves Triangle customers was cut by an unidentified work crew, affecting a Verizon tower as well. He said crews were working to fix the problem.

Local law enforcement agencies reminded Verizon customers that they wouldn’t be able to call 911 from their cellphones.
