Tiny chorus, big impact as volunteers take part in Frogwatch workshops
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — They may be some of the smallest creatures out there, but they are also some of the loudest, and now there is a new batch of volunteers listening for them.
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher held its first Frogwatch workshop of 2024 on Sunday.
Several people took part in a listening session to see if they could recognize the calls of a variety of frogs and toads.
Kristen Holloman-Noe is the education outreach coordinator for the aquarium.
She said its important to know and learn about these creatures because they can show us how the environment itself is doing.
“Amphibians are also fantastic in helping us to understand the health of our wetlands,” Holloman-Noe said. “So if we are able to pay attention to those animals, understand where they are, where they are moving, how they are thriving, then we can understand what’s happening with our wetlands that we share.”
You can still sign up for workshops on the Aquarium’s website and the workshops will continue through February.
