Too much Royalty for Tribe as UNCW wins, 6-2
WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – Alex Royalty picked up his fifth straight win while UNCW used a trio of home runs to upend William & Mary, 6-2, in game five of the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament on Thursday at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks improved to 29-27 with the win while the Tribe dipped to 32-24.
Royalty (9-2) limited W&M to a run on three hits over 7.2 innings. He walked one and struck out eight.
Brian Mims and Ryan Jeffers led UNCW with two hits apiece while the Seahawks collected home runs off the bats of Casey Golden, Nick Feight and Robbie Thorburn. Golden’s homer was the 19th of the season and came with two runners on base as UNCW extended its lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning.
Charles Ameer led W&M with two hits while Ryan Hall reached bases in three of four at bats. Owen Socher ruined Royalty’s shutout bid with a solo homer in the eighth.
W&M starter Bodie Sheehan (6-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, over 5.1 innings.

Inside the box score: W&M managed to land its leadoff hitter on base just once … Neither team had a bases loaded hit, going 0-2 … UNCW was 2-for-9 with RISP while the Tribe was 1-for-6.
Notes: Jeffers extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a second-inning double … Royalty won his fifth consecutive game and set a personal-high with his ninth win of the season … Golden and Feight continued their charge up the UNCW career home run list with Golden hitting his 38th and Feight his 36th … Golden is third all-time followed by Feight in fourth … With 80 home runs, the 2017 Seahawks have matched the 2006 club and is tied for third on the single season list.
