Topsail High School places cap on homecoming dance attendance
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some parents of one Pender County high school are upset this year’s homecoming has a limited number of tickets.
Tickets for Topsail High School’s homecoming this year will be given on a first come, first serve basis. That’s because the school’s student population far exceeds the space available for the event.
Some parents took to Facebook expressing their frustration about the rule. But parent Courtney Winter said the problem is nothing new and that it comes down to a community that is growing faster than the school.
“While it is terrible that all kids don’t get to participate, I think if you switch it to a venue that’s larger that’s more expensive, then it will become an issue that kids can’t afford to go,” she said.
WWAY reached out to the school district for comment, it confirmed that due to safety concerns, the homecoming dance will be limited to 700 tickets, with seniors getting first pick.
