Topsail High unveils new refurbished track

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Topsail High School, which remained closed for more than a month after Hurricane Florence, had reason to celebrate Tuesday as they cut the ribbon on their newly refurbished track.

Pender County School Board Chair Kenneth Lanier says the project cost $125,000 and took three months to complete.

The old track was removed and the new rubberized track was put down.

Lanier says the project was already in the budget before Hurricane Florence hit. That budget is now drained, despite the need for more projects, but is happy its done.

“This has been about 2-3 years coming actually, and the condition of the track it was in, we’ve been having meets away actually,” Lanier said. “We couldn’t have home meets here because the condition of the track. And now we can put it back at home and I’m sure everybody is excited about that.”

Lanier says the track is open for public use when it is not being used by the school.
