HOLLY RIDGE, NC (WWAY) — Joshua Patti has resigned from the Holly Ridge Town Council, effective immediately.

In a statement on Facebook, Patti said the decision came after reflection and conversations with his family.

“It has been an honor to serve the residents of Holly Ridge,” Patti wrote. “I am proud of the work I have been part of, including efforts to improve transparency, strengthen emergency response services, keep taxes low, and support improvements to our parks and community infrastructure.”

Patti said he aimed to approach his role with “common sense and compassion,” focusing on listening to residents and making thoughtful decisions.

However, he said personal circumstances led to his resignation.

“Recent circumstances have made it clear that I must prioritize the well-being of my family,” Patti said. “It is deeply disappointing that my children have been subjected to unwarranted attacks, and I will always put their stability and future first.”

Patti also expressed frustration with what he described as an adversarial environment among some town leaders.

“I remain disappointed in the adversarial approach taken toward me by some town colleagues, and I believe at times divisive behavior was encouraged toward those who respectfully disagree,” he said.

Despite stepping down from elected office, Patti said he plans to remain involved in civic engagement and advocacy efforts, including starting a group focused on civic education and government accountability.
